The Committee investigating the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games is holding a public hearing in Bendigo today.
Locals, business’ and sporting clubs affected will speak on the impacts of the cancellation of the due to be regionally held event.

Bendigo Motel Association President, Mark Mcloughlan, is due to give evidence from 10am, followed by Bendigo Stadium Ltd (Red Energy Arena) Chair, Stacie Wright, and Bendigo and District Cycling Club’s Glenn Harrison at 11am.
In the afternoon, La Trobe Business School Senior Lecturers, Alana Thomson, and Ashleigh-Jane Thompson are expected to appear alongside Griffith University Senior Lecturer, Millicent Kennelly.
City of Greater Bendigo CEO, Andrew Cooney, and Greater Shepparton City Council Economic Development Manager, Anthony Nicolaci, are also scheduled to have their say.
“We’re hearing from councils, businesses, tourism bodies, accommodation providers and sports clubs about the impacts of the event’s cancellation on communities,” Committee Chair David Limbrick says.
“We’re also seeking input from these individuals and organisations on the government’s $2 billion infrastructure and housing program which was announced instead.”
The Committee recently held day-long regional hearings in Geelong and Ballarat.
Tuesday’s sessions will not be live broadcast, however, a delayed screening will be shown on the Parliament website. Transcripts of the hearings will also be published at a later date.
