Police are hoping for a good public turnout for tomorrow’s Police Remembrance Day march and service in Bendigo.
The day will kick off from 10am at the corner of Myers and Williamson Streets, and will involve serving officers, veterans and marching band.
The service will take place at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Bendigo.
National Police Remembrance Day takes place on the 29th of September, however the 2024 event will be held on Friday the 27th.
Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said it is an important event for police.
“This is such a significant day for policing,” said Commissioner Patton.
“We thank the public supporting us.
“Importantly, it’s a day we come together to remember and thank all police officers.”
President of Bendigo Blue Ribbon, Marg Singe, said there were few other jobs in which people were required to put their life on the line every day they go to work.
Ms Singhe said while the Remembrance Day can be emotional, but was well worth attending.
“It’s sad in some ways, but in other ways it’s very uplifting,” Ms Singhe said.
“The fact that we remember the people that have gone before us, it’s well worth attending to get a sense of how the police operate and how they honour their members who have fallem.”
175 Victorian police officers have lost their lives while on duty since the force was formed in 1873.
