Bendigo ratepayers will be asked to tip another $650,000 dollars into Bendigo Airport as the cost of the project continues to balloon.

It’s the second time the council has been asked to provide extra money, after it approved $2.1 million in top-up funding in 2023.

The total price has blown out to more than $12.5 million, with the bulk of the money coming from the state and federal governments.

If the additional funding is approved at Monday night’s Bendigo Council meeting, it will take the city’s contribution to more than $3.6 million.

A report to council said the airport project had suffered “significant cost pressures” over its life, including extra paving and landscaping, work on stormwater and sewers, road upgrades and electrical work.

The report said some work that had been completed had to be redone after the discovery of undocumented services, unstable ground and undetected rock.
