A new report by the Urban Development Institute of Australia states Bendigo’s land supply is low enough that developers could exhaust all land immediately available for detached homes within three years.
Greater Bendigo’s current population is just over 125,000, but the City of Greater Bendigo council expects that will exceed 200,000 by 2050. Although, a separate report suggests, that if there is a greater population shift away from Melbourne, Bendigo could grow to as much as 350,000 by 2050.
Bendigo Federal MP Lisa Chesters says local government is working to make sure the region is prepared.
