A 78-lot residential development west of Bendigo Creek has caused public outrage after Greater Bendigo’s Council approved the rezoning of the flood-prone land.
At a council-held meeting, ACM reports that Councilor Greg Penna raised flooding concerns when six of nine councillors voted to approve the plans. Councillor Penna says, “When nature lets fly with a heavy downpour I would not want to be one of the 78 residents who may live there.”
As a participating member of the Parliamentary inquiry into the disastrous floods of October 2022, Nationals Member for Northern Victoria, Gaelle Broad says she believes developers are not probably preparing these flood-prone blocks.
