Over Half of Aussie Kids Can’t Swim, Let’s Change That!

A new government-funded swimming program aims to teach the next generation how to keep their head above water.

Fresh figures show over half (55%) of all Australian children are not learning to swim due to the cost of lessons. Meanwhile, in the pandemic, over 8 million swimming lessons were missed due to COVID restrictions.

Olympic Coach and President of SWIM Coaches & Teachers Australia, Joanne Love, tells Robbo on the Wake Up Call they lost many teachers over that period due to a lack of stable work.

Love says the SWIM program ensures job stability for teachers across Victoria.

Local SWIM-accredited schools include the Paul Sadler Swimland in Bendigo and the Just Keep Swimming Swim School in Maiden Gully.
