Eaglehawk and Castlemaine will face off in the Pat Cronin Foundation feature match this weekend at Canterbury Park, raising awareness of the dangers of violence and the fatal Coward Punch.
The league is throwing its support behind the Pat Cronin Foundation and the work it does in raising awareness about the “coward punch” and the ramifications of violence. The Think Pat message – pause, accept and think – is one that will be emphasised throughout the weekend.
Round four not only host the feature match but will also see Maryborough verse Sandhurst at Princes Park, South Bendigo will take on Gisborne at the Harry Trott Reserve and Golden Square will challenge Kangaroo Flat at the Wade Street Recreation Reserve with Strathfieldsaye enjoying a bye this week.
The foundation will be spreading its message and also fund-raising at all BFNL games this weekend.
All clubs are encouraged to make a statement of support to end the Coward Punch. As a simple gesture of respect, all players are asked to shake the hands of their opponents before and after each game. Coaches are also encouraged to talk to their players about the dangers and consequences of violence – including the Coward Punch – both on and off the field. To reinforce the message all players are asked to wear a yellow armband to remember Pat.
