A Bendigo MP has hit out at yesterday's increase to the Jobkeeper payment.

Lisa Chesters says the increase of $50 per fortnight, or $3.57 per day, is not enough and traps people in poverty.

Income free earnings will also rise to $150 per fortnight from April 1st.

The PM made the announcement as part of a $9 billion federal government plan.
