Bendigo’s council has announced that it's buildings will be powered by sun as part of a bold plan to tackle climate change.

Council has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement with Mondo Power for the delivery of new solar energy systems to many of it's counci-owned buildings.

The agreement will see the installation and maintenance of solar systems on more than 70 City-owned properties.

Mayor of the City of Greater Bendigo Cr Andrea Metcalf said the first buildings to see solar installation will be Bendigo Library, Bendigo Livestock Exchange and the Heathcote Service Centre.

“This will result in power cost savings to the City and the City’s tenants of approximately $2.4 million over the full 20 years and is possibly one of the largest solar deployment programs for a Victorian Council," she said.
